Andy's Voiceover
"Have you ever tried going down a firepole? It's not easy. There's no perfect way to get down, but there's definitely a wrong way. Hold on too tight and you won't slide, you'll just hang there, dangling. Stuck. Nobody wants to get stuck. That's why I decided a long time ago to just use the damn stairs. Most stations don't even have firepoles anymore. They're considered too risky. Better off to just play it safe. Screw safe. Safe paralyzes you. Safe makes you hold on too tight. That's how you get stuck. The trick is to breathe in and loosen your grip. You can't overthink it. You gotta grab on. Take the next step. Trust yourself and let go."

Vic in this episode

Vic is on aid car duty helping Tiffany after Andy and Maya save her. Back at the fire station, we see her tease Ben, calling him "New Guy", much to his chagrin, and giving him chores to do. She is unimpressed with him being a former surgeon. She is also not impressed with Dean leaving his dress blues with her laundry and reminds him to wash his own stuff. Later on, she teases Dean about having sex swagger which she knows because she went through his phone. At the end of the episode we see her telling Travis that she is going to visit Captain Herrera at the hospital and she asks for his keys. Travis reminds her not to use lights or sirens but she says that she is totally doing the sirens. When Ben joins them to tell them that he wants to be a part of the team and learn she finally calls him by his name. The episode ends with Andy declaring the day a "Pole Day". Vic is the first one out the door and down the pole.

Quotes from this episode

Vic: Do these, as well. Clean 'em. Hang 'em. Oh, and one of them has a hole, so you'll need to patch that up.
Ben: Um, which one has the hole?
Vic: [scoffs] You're not new? Figure it out.
Vic: I will talk about something else -- Dean.
Dean: What the hell I do now?
Vic: How about you stop throwing your dress blues in with my wash?
Dean: Ah, please.
Vic: I'm not your rookie anymore. Do your own damn laundry.
Vic: Something's different. Your energy, your whole look. Something happened. Something last night. You got laid! You have sex swagger!
Dean: My energy told you all that?
Vic: No, your phone's blowing up, and I'm nosy. [laughs]
Vic: Gonna swing by the hospital after lunch, visit the captain. I, uh, need your keys. Yeah.
Travis: No lights. No sirens.
Vic: [chuckling] Oh, I'm totally doing the sirens.
