Andy's Voiceover
"Go with the flow. Wear life loosely. Let it be. These are not easy concepts for most firefighters. We're trained to go after a problem, attack it, to stamp it out. But that doesn't always work. Sometimes, we're not the ones in control. We have to go with the flow and just put our game faces on. And see what happens. It's all about balance. It's about recognizing when you're able to put a fire out and when you have to stand back and let it burn. When a structure's not safe, when the fire's too hot, we're told to stay away. But what if we can't stay back? What if there's something drawing us toward that fire? What if it grabs hold of us? What if it pulls us in? What if we get too close? Close enough that fire could burn us? And what if we like it?"

Vic in this episode

Travis has dragged Vic to meditate with him because he thinks it might help with her fear. She is annoyed because he dragged her out of bed this early. They bump into Grant. She has to introduce herself because Travis is being awkward. When Grant wonders if they can exchange numbers it's Vic that says yes in Travis name. Grant gives him his card and Vic is happy for Travis but he tells her they are obviously incompatible because he's into meditation and Grant into yoga. "Obviously", Vic mocks him. Vic and Travis come to see Edith and Grant shows up. Vic is amused that Edith is trying to set up her grandson with Travis. When they leave Edith, Vic tries to talk about Grant but Travis doesn't want to and stops the ambulance because Maya is waiting for them to run some simulations with Vic to help her get over her fear. Maya pushes too hard and Vic yells at her telling her she is not helping. They get called to a fire at a strip mall. At the scene, Travis makes sure that Vic stays by the engine and doesn't have to go near the fire. Later when they can't do anything else but watch the building burn down, Vic stands close and asks Maya to stay with her to watch the building burn because she thinks it's helping her and that she needs that right now. At the end we see Vic and Maya running and Vic hates it but it's either running or torches. Vic is not happy.

Quotes from this episode

Travis: Meditation can help you get over your fear if you actually meditate.
Vic: Oh, don't drag me out of bed this early and expect me to do anything but sleep.
Grant: Sorry, I just... Do we -- We know each other, right?
Travis: Yeah, the -- the nursing home.
Grant: My grandmother.
Travis: You're Edith's grandson.
Grant: Grant.
Travis: Yes! Travis. I'm Travis.
Grant: I remember.
Vic: I'm Vic. Hello. Hi.
Travis: Sorry.
Grant: Oh, my class is starting, but hopefully I'll see you again. Maybe we could exchange numbers?
Vic: That sounds lovely! Travis? Right?
Travis Yeah. I mean, uh...
Grant: Here.
Travis Oh.
Grant: In case you're interested.
Vic: Damn, Trav! Those are some digits!
Travis Yeah.
Vic: Yeah. "Yeah". Just "yeah"? That's it?
Travis I mean, he seems nice. But, I mean, he's a yoga guy, and I'm into meditation, so we're obviously totally incompatible.
Vic: Well, obviously.
Travis What are we supposed to say to Herrera?
Vic: Well, I'd suggest you don't lead with, "Aw, I'm so sorry you blew your chance at a career you always wanted."
Vic: You think he'll take you to breakfast or make it? Like, woo you with his homemade brioche --
Vic: [breathing heavily] No, this -- this is not helping! You are not helping me! This will not help!
Maya: Hey, you okay?
Vic: Yeah. Hey, can you, uh... Can you just stand next to me? This, um -- This helps. I think this is what I need right now.
Vic: I have mentioned I hate running before, right? Like, a lot?
Maya: Well, it's this or the torches.
Vic: Why? Why? Why are those my only two options? What? Oh, thank God, a break. That's pretty. I don't remember it. Is it new?
Maya: Yeah, it is.
Vic: So, uh, there's no possibility of walking the rest of the way back, is there? 'Cause I'm not above bribery. [scoffs]
Maya: Dream on. We got seven more miles to crush.
Vic: Great. Slow down!
