Andy's Voiceover
"Flames aren't the deadliest part of a fire. It's the heat. Radiant heat alone can singe paper, melt plastic, blister flesh. I think that's something most people don't realize. If the heat index is high enough, it'll get the job done. You don't even have to touch the fire for it to burn you. You can feel when your temperature is rising. The human body knows when that balance is tipped. It knows when things are getting too hot, when the air around you starts to become too uncomfortable, when there's no relief, no cleansing breath, no escape. Just the heat, building and building and building, until you're on fire."

Vic in this episode

Vic, Andy and Maya talk about the last interviews before Ripley finally chooses a captain. Vic jokes that Andy should not remind him of knowing her because of how he threw her out of the room during peer reviews. Later during a call, Vic tears into Dean for punching in the wrong code and locking half the team in the garage that is about to overheat. They have to work fast to get them out. Vic calls Captain Herrera for help and tells him what is going on. Everything works out and everyone is safe. Later at the bar, Vic covers for Dean when Jack asks why the alarm code didn't work. When Jack leaves, Dean thanks her and she tells him that he had her back as well so that's what friends do for each other but she also reminds him that next time but he stops her and tells her that there won't be a next time.

Quotes from this episode

Vic: [groans] Ripley.
Maya: Did I tell you what he said to me during the peer reviews? That I should go out for lieutenant because he thought I would make a good Captain, too, someday? As if he should be focused on that.
Vic: Yeah, well, he was mainly just focused on kicking me out of the room. So, maybe don't remind him that you know me when you go for your sit-down. It'll probably be better for you.
Vic: [groans] Hey, hey! What the hell have you been doing? Why haven't you been answering your radio?
Dean: What are you talking about? I've been trying to get Jack this whole time. Nobody's answering me.
Vic: You set your com to Channel 3 like Gibson said, right? Oh, come on Miller. What the hell?
Dean: I-It's fine, all right? I'm on it.
Vic: No, it is not fine! You punched in the wrong code into the security system, and it automatically shut all the doors.
Dean: Yeah, can't we just override the system?
Vic: No. Everybody in there is trapped.
Dean: Thank you for covering for me --
Vic: [scoffs] Don't thank me. You guys have all had my back. [chuckling] I've got yours. It's what friends do -- we look out for each other. I don't know what got you so distracted that you made a mistake like that, but next time --
Dean: There won't be a next time.
Vic: This calls for shots!
