Andy's Voiceover
"Fire is necessary. Even though it might seem random or instantaneous or impossible to control. Even if it's our last day on Earth, and everything around us is burning to the ground, fire has purpose. Fire knows what it's doing. And once it's started to spread, there's not actually much you can do to stop it. So what would you do with your last day on Earth? Would you speak your mind? Could you admit your flaws? Would you give someone new a chance? Would you protect your heart? Would you share your space? Or would you wake up, get dressed, step out, breathe in, move beyond the past or sadness or worry, and just start running?"

Vic in this episode

Vic wakes up after her night with Ripley. She flees her own apartment while he is in the shower. At the station, Dean notices the swagger but she denies that there is any. Vic notices that Ben is upset but he tells her that he is fine. Sullivan has them do chores, Vic is paired up with Jack and she asks him for advice about the adult sleepover she had without telling him who it was with. She doesn't know how she feels about it. She had a good time but things with the guy can get really complicated. Later when they are cleaning the windows, Jack opens up to Vic about not sleeping well. She listens. Sullivan interrupts them and tries connecting with them. Jack and Vic find it awkward and weird. They get a call. After the call, Jack wakes up from a nightmare while in the truck. Vic and Sullivan look concerned. At the end of the day, when Jack asks her if she has made a decision about her hypothetical guy she is still confused. Jack realizes that she cares about the guy when Vic's phone starts to vibrate. Jack hands it to her and sees the caller ID and knows that Vic slept with Ripley. He doesn't say anything about it as she answers the phone.

Quotes from this episode

Dean: Okay. Rewind.
Vic: What?
Dean: Back it up and come back in again 'cause i'm pretty sure I just spotted some swagger. Is that what I'm seeing?
Vic: No.
Dean: Do you have the swagger this morning?
Vic: No. Nope. Nope. Nope. No swagger. Nope.
Vic: Okay, well, hypothetically speaking. If someone were to have... an adult sleepover with you.
Jack: Oh... This kind of advice. Okay.
Vic: Yeah, and then, the next morning... while you're in the shower, that someone...snuck out...
Jack: Okay, so you don't like the guy very much.
Vic: No, I didn't say this was me. This is hypothetical.
Jack: Okay, the it sounds like Mr. Hypothetical got out of the shower and assumed... you don't like him very much.
Vic: No, I d-- It's not that. I -- I don't know if I like him or not. I...was... I haven't even thought about that, actually. I was just thinking about not being late for work, and how anything with him gets a little complicated, good as that adult sleepover w-- No. Okay. Anyway, I-I don't know. I told you the situation. Now it's your turn. What's the next move Advice Machine? Dispense.
Vic: Okay, I know washing windows isn't the most exciting thing, but isn't my sparkling conversation enough to keep you awake?
Sullivan: How's it going? With, uh, you two?
Vic: Well, we just finished the main stairs and the landing, sir. About halfway done with the windows.
Sullivan: No, I-I meant, uh... life. Uh, how's it going?
Vic: I don't -- I don't know how to answer that.
Jack: Yeah, what do you mean, sir?
Sullivan: Got a couple of off days coming up. How do you like to spend your spare time? Got any...hobbies, plans? Significant others?
Vic: Uh, absolutely not. Nope, nope. No. Nope, none of those things.
Jack: Are you gonna call "Mr. Hypothetical"?
Vic: I don't know. I... I was. I mean, I might. I will, but...
Jack: So you do care what happens with this guy?
Vic: No. I snuck out, remember? You said that means I don't. But I might. Care some. A little.'s so early. None of this makes any sense, and it'd be so much easier if it were just... [sighs] just a one-and-done, ya know?
Jack: Decision time?
Vic: No. It can't -- can't be decision time, 'cause I haven't decided yet.
Jack: Your, uh... mystery guy's going to voicemail.
Maya: Why are you so happy?
Vic: Oh, no reason. Why are you so sad? Oh, Sullivan. Right. By the way, he's being super weird today, so...
