Vic in this episode

The team is at the scene saving a mother and her baby and then back at the station, trying to get some rest when they get another call to Joe's bar where a car has crashed into it. There is a flashback from two weeks prior in which Vic introduces Jackson to her team as her friend. Everyone is surprised and shocked and it's a bit awkward. When Ben explains to Bailey that they are dating she is surprised since Vic had just lost Ripley but Ben tells her that everyone grieves in their own way. The team celebrates Bailey's pregnancy and make their wishes for the baby. Vic wishes it more ups than down. In the present time, Vic is in the aid car with Travis when she gets a text from Jackson. She calls him her "hot doctor lover" which Travis finds weird. Jackson then calls her and tells her that he is trapped in the bar which Vic first thinks is a joke which she doesn't take well considering that she just buried the man she loves. They make it to the scene, where Andy and Vic discover that a truck is blocking the back exit. Vic reminds Andy that Jackson is trapped there to which Andy replies that it's not just him which Vic takes as Andy judging her. Andy wonders how she was able to move on from Ripley dying and Vic tells her how she has been coping and dealing with the loss and how much it hurts her. They continue to work towards saving the people trapped and finally manage to move the truck. Afterwards, Vic and Jackson are outside and flirt. She goes back to work as does he. She is on her way back with Travis who blames himself for their patient dying and Vic just lets him vent about how life is unfair, reminding her of her own loss which makes her cry. They remember that their victim had a dog and drive to her house to feed him before driving back to the station to get some rest until there is another call.

Quotes from this episode

Vic: Hey, brought the balloons. Pink and blue and yellow and green 'cause gender's not a binary.
Vic: Joe's.
Travis: Man, I like that bar.
Vic: It's gotta be chock full of doctors and nurses.
Travis: Maybe not. Late at night, middle of the week.
Vic: Do you think people don't drink in the middle of the week? Ooh, a text from my hot doctor lover!
Travis: You know, you don't have to call him that every time you refer to him.
Vic: Which one? Hot or doctor? 'Cause he's both.
Travis: "Lover." It's very 1978, and not in a good way.
Vic: Well, I'm bringing it back.
Travis: Please don't. You know, what you could call him is Jackson.
Vic: Or I could call you Killjoy. Hey, lover.
Travis: Mm.
Vic: Sorry, I'm on a call. Car plowed into Joe's bar. Got to make it quick.
Jackson: Yeah, I'm in the bar.
Vic: That's not funny.
Jackson: No, it's really not.
Vic: Okay, well, I buried a man I love not all that long ago, so catastrophe humor isn't really my thing.
Jackson: And yet, I remain in the bar.
Vic: What? You're serious?
Travis: What?
Vic: Are Are you hurt?
Travis: Why is he hurt?
Jackson: No, I'm not hurt, all right? It's just, the front door is blocked by the car, and the back door is blocked by something on the outside.
Vic: Okay, you're in the bar? He's trapped. You're trapped in a burning bar?
Jackson: It's not burning, okay? There's nothing burning.
Vic: Well, not yet. How bad is the car situation?
Jackson: You know what? I got to give you to Warren. Here.
Vic: Warren?
Ben: Hey. There's no fire threat, but the structural integrity of the front wall's been compromised, and the rear exit's blocked. And we have, uh, six injured, some dire. Get here now.
Travis: Hot doctor lover's trapped in Joe's bar?
Vic: Shut up and drive.
Vic: My hot doctor lover is inside of that bar, and I would very much like for his body to remain intact.
Andy: A lot of people are inside that bar. Maybe I can hot-wire it.
Vic: Are you judging me?
Andy: No.
Vic: Yeah, I'm pretty sure you are. I'm pretty sure there was some judgment in that tone.
Andy: Your fiance died.
Vic: Right. So, you think my vagina should be a war widow draped in black forever?
Andy: I'm not trying to judge you. I just I don't get how you did it.
Vic: Did what?
Andy: Moved on.
Vic: Oh, you You want to know the secret? Um, I don't know. You feel it all the way. You cry, you wail, you write bad poems, and you sob so hard, you puke. You rage at the gods, and you scream into your pillow, and you cry so hard, your knees buckle under you, and you cry so hard, you think your lungs are gonna collapse, and then something reminds you of how funny he could be, so you start to laugh, and then you laugh so hard, you need to cry some more. The secret is to let it out for as long and as often as you feel like it. It's when you fight grief That's when it lingers. So, what are you grieving?
Andy: I'm not grieving. No one died.
Vic: Yeah, you know, no one had to. I know heartbreak when I see it, Herrera. Someone hurt you bad.
Travis: I wish your baby a mountain of charm, because charm will get you through just about anything in this life.
Vic: Even criminal charges.
Travis: That is true.
Jackson: Criminal charges?
Vic: Yeah, he was defending my honor. Uh, I wish your baby courage, vulnerability...
Maya: You're supposed to only pick one.
Vic: Okay. Great. Thank you. I wish your baby more ups in this life than downs.
Jackson: You look, um...
Vic: Filthy. Yeah, I know. I also stink.
Jackson: Hot. Actually, you look hot.
Vic: Yeah? You like soot? Soot's your thing?
Jackson: Apparently, soot's one of my things now.
Travis: He's in heart surgery.
Vic: It is not your fault.
Travis: He's in heart surgery. When he comes out, he's gonna learn that his wife, who was perfectly healthy...
Vic: You don't know she was perfectly healthy.
Travis: She was perfectly healthy.
Vic: Well, she drove her car into a bar.
Travis: She swerved while she was trying to get her husband to the hospital.
Vic: Yeah, maybe she had an aneurysm waiting to rupture. Maybe she would have died tomorrow...
Travis: Vic, just let me say it. Just let me say it. I should've taken away those scissors. I was right there, and I almost had her out. I just ... Every time I try to believe that there's some justice, some grand plan, life proves me wrong. I almost had her out. Why are you crying?
Vic: It just happens sometimes. I highly recommend it.
