Vic in this episode

Vic is shown in a flashback from 2012 rehearsing when she starts crying. She tells her teacher that her grandmother had died and that she is sorry for crying. He tells her that she can be sad and dance and sing at the same time, so she goes back to rehearsing. Back in present time, Vic and Travis talk about their shift when Vic sees Jackson and gets all nervous and acts weird around him. When everyone but Travis leaves, Vic notices the tension between Travis and Emmett and then admit to having done something bad with Jackson. As they are on their way out, Sullivan stops them and gives them extra work. Vic and Travis conduct fire inspections but the guy tells them that everything is taken care of and they can leave. There is another flashback that shows Vic rehearsing when Pruitt walks in to do a fire inspection himself. In present time, Vic calls Sullivan to assist in the matter and he tells her and Travis that he got things wrong and everything is approved and they can go home. Later at the bar, Vic and Travis are talking about Chief Dixon and Sullivan being corrupt and Vic decides to confront Sullivan about it but he shuts her down. We see another flashback of Vic singing when the theater catches fire and her teacher Cooper dies tragically. Vic is saved by Pruitt and that's how she became a firefighter which she ends up telling Dean. They talk about the whole Sullivan and Dixon mess when Jack joins them and tells Vic that Jackson got shot. She looks worried and excuses herself.

Quotes from this episode

Cooper: Okay, here. Come on, let's... let's take a walk. You guys run that again. Come here.
Vic: I'm sorry, Cooper. I'm sorry. [ sniffles ]
Cooper: For what?
Vic: I'm sorry for... For crying at rehearsal.
Cooper: Never apologize for your emotional life. All right? Your emotional life is why I cast you in every lead. Your emotional life is what makes you impossible to ignore. Apologize for those fuh-lap ball changes... they're atrocious. What's... What's going on?
Vic: [ sighs deeply ] My grandma died. My... My grandma died, and my parents just went back to work, so... I don't know... I figured I'd come... I'd just come to rehearsal, but I, um... I just...
Cooper: Oh, my love. Your soul is large. Right? Your being contains multitudes. You can be sad for Grandma and fuh-lap ball change all at the same time. All right?
Vic: You slept with him, didn't you?
Travis: What??
Vic: You slept with him.
Travis: No. Nope.
Vic: I'm just disappointed I didn't notice it sooner.
Travis: Uh, I'm sorry. Because we're both gay men... ...you just assume that we slept together??
Vic: Oh, no, it's because you guys avoid eye contact with each other like it's your job.
Travis: No, I didn't, okay?
Vic: You... Oh.
Travis: He's got a whole...
Vic: He's got a whole what?
Travis: He just broke up with his... Okay, fine. Yes, I did. Shut up, shut up!?
Vic: Yes! I knew it! Oh, my God.
Travis: No. What about you? What about you??
Vic: I knew it!
Travis: "Oh, Jackson, I didn't
Vic: Don't...
Travis: see you there."?
Vic: I may have done something bad.
Travis: What... Jackson??
Vic: No. Well... Ugh.
Travis: Jackson??
Vic: Why do we sleep with the people we work with? Well, the only people we ever meet are people we work with.
Sullivan: Montgomery. Hughes. The Chief's office sent over some addresses of inspections that they need fast-tracked... today. Who wants some overtime??
Vic: So, is this just how it's gonna be now? The Battalion Chief wants to spend time with his wife, so just the underlings have to work on their day off?
Sullivan: Yep.
Vic: Got it.
Travis: Okay. Hey. Okay, w-why... why is the Chief's office asking us to do the inspections?
Sullivan: Fire Marshal's backed up. These are priority.
Vic: We'll get them.
Travis: But we just finished a shift.
Vic: No. Okay, knocking down fires gets all the glory, but inspections are the real life-savers. Plus, we like money.
Sullivan: Thank you.
Travis: Why do we befriend people we work with??
Vic: Because the only people we meet are people we work with.
Travis: Hey.
Vic: You love me!
Travis: No!
Vic: Let's go!
Travis: Stop it! I told you so many times I don't like that.
Vic: Do we really think Dixon's that corrupt?
Travis: It would explain why the Chief's having Sullivan do the inspections instead of the Fire Marshal.
Vic: Yeah, but do we really think that Sullivan is that corrupt?
Travis: Are you talking about Mr. Andy Herrera? Can we even...
Vic: Don't. I can't.
Travis: God. Pruitt's probably rolling over in his... urn.
Vic: And you just assume, you know, that anybody who becomes a firefighter is just inherently good.
Travis: Mm.
Vic: Like...
Travis: Yeah.
Vic: Right. But... I mean, I guess there are some rotten apples. [ sighs ] So are you, like, in love with the corrupt Fire Chief's son?
Travis: No.
Vic: Some drama.
Travis: No. No!
Vic: Like, it feels a little...
Travis: Definitely not in love.
Vic: Okay.
Travis: He's a baby. We're friends. Who can't stop having sex.
Vic: Yeah. [ laughs ]
Travis: What about you?
Vic: I...
Travis: You got one of these, too. You got one of those.
Vic: Yeah, I have one of those. I had... I had one of those.
Travis: One of those.
Vic: I'm gonna go talk to him.
Travis: Wait. Who? Jackson?
Vic: Sullivan.
Sullivan: Hughes. What are you doing...
Vic: Uh, you can't just sign those inspections.
Sullivan: Oh, this is none of your business.
Vic: You can't... No, Chief, due respect, et cetera, but if you sign those inspections, you could be actually putting...
Sullivan: You are out of your lane.
Vic: Maybe, but I have also seen what happens when people ignore fire codes. You know, we don't ever think the worst is gonna happen until it does. What... we watch the... the... the stupid video on the plane telling us how to put on our oxygen masks, half paying attention because we don't think there's ever, you know, any way we could be the person who dies in a plane crash. But 257 people died in plane crashes last year. And way more died in fires that were easily preventable. So I don't honestly... I mean, I don't know why you're covering this up, and I don't really care. Please. Please don't sign those. You could be signing the death certificates for who knows how many people, so...
Sullivan: Hughes, my parents died in a plane crash.
Vic: I... I didn't... I didn't know. I'm sorry, Chief.
Sullivan: Goodbye, Hughes.
Vic: I...
Vic:Why didn't he listen to you?
Pruitt: It's not important now.
Vic: It is.
Pruitt: It's not important now.
Vic: You told him to take the set down, and he didn't listen, and now he's dead, and... Who's gonna... Who's gonna tell his husband that he's dead because he didn't listen?
Pruitt: Shh.
Vic: Why didn't he listen?
Pruitt: I don't know. I don't know.
Vic: [ crying ] Why didn't...
Vic: You know, Pruitt Herrera is the reason I became a firefighter.
Dean: Me too.
Vic: I think Dixon's blackmailing Sullivan into forging inspections.
Dean: What?
Vic: Yeah.
Dean: Why?
Vic: I don't know. I haven't figured that out yet. Do you think he's a bad guy?
Dean: Dixon? He's the worst.
Vic: No, Sullivan.
Dean: Oh. I don't know, honestly. I, um... I hope not, for Andy's sake.
Jack: For Andy's sake, what?
Dean: Hey.
Jack: Hey.
Dean: Thought you went home.
Jack: Yeah, I was feeling blue. I wanted some baby time.
Dean: Great. Well, when she wakes poopy and hungry in 30 minutes, she is all yours.
Vic: Oh, yeah.
Jack: Did you tell her about Avery?
Vic: What about Avery?
Jack: He got shot.
Vic: What?
Jack: Yeah.
Vic: What?
Dean: Yeah, sorry. Should have said that earlier, but he's fine.
Vic: Are you...
Dean: It's just a GSW to the calf. He's at Grey-Sloan.
Jack: He's okay.
Vic: Wow.
Dean: What?
Vic: All right. I'll be right back.
